“Hi there, I’m a producer over at High Noon Entertainment. I was reaching out because we are currently working on a new show in Denver – what I like to call it is ‘home renovation meets sex fantasies’.”
Sex rooms? Likely a scam.
That’s what we thought when this email hit our inbox in April of 2021.
It was not a scam.
Two months later in June, we were involved in three episodes of the new Netflix Original launching today, July 8th, How to Build a Sex Room.
The original plan was to be involved with photographing two couples as part of their field trips for pushing outside comfort zones to bring them closer together. A third episode was added, but with a different role.
This came out of nowhere. But it was in line with our focus: to use art as a tool for breaking down archaic shame narratives. The approach was different. We normally work directly with women to build their creative session. Because the field trips were a surprise, we collaborated with a strong production team for creative planning.
The series was filmed predominantly in Denver, with some footage and couples extending further south along the Colorado Front Range.
We were involved in the following episodes:
- Episode 1, Taylor & Ayjay: While we are not on screen in this episode, we captured the portrait of Taylor in the completed room
- Episode 7 (and front of Episode 8), Tricia & Gary: Our session with Tricia and Gary is highlighted starting at 37:10 in the episode; the beginning of Episode 8 has Tricia & Gary’s reveal and the images from their session are shown
- Episode 8, This episode had a different role for us and starts at 31:55 in the episode!
