“What do I wear to my boudoir session?!”
We get this question a lot. We imagine women’s beds, across America, strewn with lacy panties, tangled lingerie, and piles pf the 86 pairs of different bras we could possibly bring. A different accessory for every occasion, designed specifically to make sure we keep the luggage industry in business whenever we travel.
What a daunting task! So to answer that question, we have put together a series of items that help narrow down the options, and in most cases help you have a point of view about you and your story. Because when we create, we create the narrative of you.
Wardrobe contributes to that story. And we are storytellers. We want to tell your story in your element, in your own mise-en-scene (our favorite phrase for describing everything that goes into your story): here are ideas for helping answer that “what should I wear” question for your session.
General Items (for pairing with anything and everything!)
Sorry! We don’t have any pictures of these ones (we guess you are able to figure these out for yourself!). General items are the chameleons of the wardrobe. Here is the general list:
- Bottoms: nude, white, black, and/or gray thongs, cheeky underwear, hipster underwear, etc.
- Tops: Sports bras, demi-cups, balconettes, plunge, full coverage, t-shirt bras in neutral colors (nude, black, gray and/or white), wired/wireless, sheer, etc.
- Socks: knee-highs, comfy socks, thigh-highs, etc.
- Tights/Pantyhose/Stockings/Knickers (for our 1920s friendly crowd): standard, fishnet, suspender tights, seamed, etc.
- Footwear: again, a mix of styles like pumps, stilettos, platforms in different heights and neutral colors; sparkles, glitter, straps, plastic, and bold colors are great if they express you!
Crop Top
- Highlights your sensual features: your waist, and your breasts
- Gives creative options to accentuate your nipples or hide them
- Ability to pull the fabric in different directions gives your hands a “job to do” offering opportunities for beautiful shapes and sensual lines
Bulky Sweater
- Lends to a cozy feeling, pulling the audience into your story
- Options to be pulled up or down to highlight hips, breasts, and collar bones
- They can potentially also be tied. Bonus points if they are more open weave (they let light through)
Thin Cardigan
- Also allows options to carve your curves with light without being exposed
- Creates a casual but sexy storyline
- Offers several artistic choices from very covered up to barely on
Booty Shorts
- High or low-waisted, these shorts feel youthful and happy
- Give your images a feeling of confidence
- Provides poses to frame your best assets: bum, stomach, waist, legs
Tank Top
- Casual loungewear that tells your story at home
- Fitted tank tops highlight your breasts, collar bones, and shoulders/arms
- We can pull and twist them to show off your waist and stomach.
Body suits
- They are tight so they show your shape beautifully
- We can let the straps fall. We can have you adjust it, pull it etc.
- You can find one for you: some are thonged and show your bum, some are low-cut and show your breasts, some have cut-outs to highlight your back or waist! There’s a body suit for everyone.
Underwear Set
- Youthful and free, underwear sets bring a fun element to your time “alone” being photographed
- Another option that give your hands a job or make it comfortable to pose in a relaxed way
- Accentuates the shoulders, collar bone and neck. All of your curves are also visible! Win! Win!
Stretchy T-shirt
- Relaxed and everyday
- Who doesn’t throw on a t-shirt in the morning when you want to chill on your own?
- T-shirts can be pulled down, cinched to your side, or add reality to later shots hanging out on the floor when we’re through with them
Bralette
- Adds a feminine vibe to your styling
- Dainty and suggestive, these work well under other items, or on its own
- A fun change to the average bra
Nothing
- The female form is beautiful, a work of art, by itself, free of shame
- There is something powerful and freeing to going nude for your session
- We encourage everyone to consider it
