Candis is a mother of two daughters – both teenagers – products of a women whose sheer force of will has influenced them to become strong women themselves. Candis’s connection to land and nature was clear from the time we met her: despite her cosmopolitan success, she was grounded, authentic, and sincere.
Candis is passionate about the water, horses, nutrition and her daughters. She is by nature a nurturer and adventure seeker. She came into the shoot excited to try something new and do something for herself. She is a beacon to other women that says, “I am many things to other people, but my most important client is myself.”
Rather than create in her own space, we worked with Candis to find an AirBnB that complemented her values. Candis had never created intimate portraits before, so once on site for her session, there were some mild nerves accompanying her. We find that laying out wardrobe options and collaboratively discussing which pieces are favorites, which make you feel most “in your skin” can be a powerful way to calm nerves: Candis was no exception. What was fun about this session was the breadth of looks we were able to explore and each time it expressed a different aspect of Candis’s personality and character. We are not a single definition, mask, or character: we know that, but we sometimes forget. We forget to give license to embrace our authentic self. Working with Candis on this day provided a reminder for her of that truth.
